NIYAMA
Yama are the "do these things". These are the rules which you have to follow if you want to become a true yogi or a good person in your life. Niyama are positive duties and observations. Yama and Niyama are complements to each other.
Yama- don't do these things
Niyama- do these things
There are five Niyamas. All together are tolls for a happy and joyful life full of spiritual experiences.
- Shaucha(self-purification or cleanliness)
- Santosha(contentment)
- Tapah(self-discipline)
- Swadhaya(self- learning)
- Iswara Pranidhana(self-surrender)
1)Shaucha(self-cleanliness)
Cleanliness, not only outer cleanliness but also inner purity. Inner purity means mind purity.
Examples of Shaucha.
1) Inner
* don't think bad about anybody
* never angry with anyone
* don't think something bad happens to anyone.
means cleanliness of thoughts.
2) outer
*Bath daily
*Wear clean clothes.
*Surrounding must be neat and clean.
2) Santosha(contentment)
contentment,choice-less acceptance of all that is happening in one's life is called Santosha. It comes from an experience of acceptance—of life, of ourselves, and of whatever life has brought us.
Some people have misconceptions about santosha that if they achieve success then they get satisfied, that is not santosha. being satisfied with what you have is santosha
3) Tapah(self-discipline)
It Refers to austerity, to bear anything and everything that comes across on the spiritual path, and complete dedication to the spiritual practices.
For example:-
* waking up early morning to do yoga.
* sacrifice everything for your purposes is Tapah.
4) Swadhyay(self-learning)
It involves self-learning and learning about one's self. It is a kind of introspection and it also includes things like reading a book and implementing the learned thing in your life to become a better you.
5) Iswara Pranidhana(self-surrender)
Dissolve oneself and surrender completely to the will of the almighty.
It is a complete devotion to god.
If Yama and Niyama are both applied, They can change your life completely and brings out a better version of you. You will experience new aspects of life.
ALL THE BEST(In your yoga journey).
